Really, even if the prequels had been good movies, they still would’ve undermined the sense of mystery and wonder we were supposed to share with Luke as he was introduced to that larger world of magic and laser fights.

Even if they had been masterpieces, they would have dashed at least a piece of that magic, of being thrown into a new universe feet first.

How much worse would Beetlejuice be if we had a prequel showing how sympathetic he was as a human and exactly how it was he became such a crude glorious unholy motherfucker in his adventures after death?

Something vital would be lost.

It would be as if he were reduced to a cartoon character, merely a slightly-gross gentle prankster.

How awful would THAT be?
