Kayla and Timmy had the eighth grade to kindergarten rose ceremony on Thursday. Even though they were not in this school for kindergarten, it was still very moving. In two days, they will be fourteen years old. Next year when they go to high school will be the first time the twins have not been in a kindergarten through eighth grade school. It will be a big change.
Kayla was in her school musical about a month ago. The musical was Guys and Dolls. She was one of the hotbox girls and mission band. She has matured a lot since she was in the musical last year. Her teachers said that she was not as quiet and offered her ideas more. We practiced a lot at home. Since she is an eighth grader, she was one of the band leaders. She made her own costume this year all by herself. I was impressed with her for having the dedication to complete that. She has grown up a lot since last year.
It was a little sad because my mom was not there this year due to her health problems. We showed her parts of a recording of the performance. My dad and my husband’s parents were there.
Timmy’s hockey team made the playoffs this year. The kids play different positions at this level. During Timmy’s turn at goalie he made a save. It was a big moment for him and I think he will remember it for a long time. The team played two games in Rochester which they won. The team then went to Albany where they lost the game. Even though I have lived in New York since I was ten except for college and the military, it was only my third time going to Albany. I didn’t make it there until I was almost forty. The coaches are good about making the game fun for the kids and they had a good time this season. There was a team dinner this past Friday at Dave and Buster’s. The kids ate and then played the games.
Aaron had a campout in the Adirondacks for Scouts. He is a Webelo Scout this year. He will be a full Boy Scout next year. There were lots of Scouts from all over the state there. They did lots of activities related to early spring in the mountains. Aaron learned how to make his own soap. They also did a rope course. They slept in groups in cabins. Aaron will be eleven years old next week.
The kids made me breakfast for Mother’s Day. It was very sweet. They help with meal preparation and they’ve gotten pretty good at it. On Saturday we watched the Kentucky Derby. The kids ride horses when they go to my brother’s house in the country.
