(okay, it’s more of a metal song than a poem but the idea of writing a metal song about the Cardiff Giant hoax in the 1800s tickled my fancy so, ah, there we are)
will the man who’s made of stone
rise up rise up
though he was only a hoax
rise up rise up
with hardened mud for bones
rise up rise up
lash out at the unknown
rise up rise up
rise!
child of the circus barkers’ eyes!
said you were ancient in their lies!
stealing the gold of the unwise!
make yourself real if you just try
crush the conmen ‘til they die
die
rise up rise up!
cardiff giant in the ground
rise up rise up
from a museum underground
rise up rise up
once legendary world around
rise up rise up
until the charlatan was found
rise up rise up!
rise!
hear the huckster’s cries!
unleash your massive size!
no curio no prize!
make yourself real if you just try
crush the conmen ‘til they die
die
rise up rise up!
