not quite an atheist in poetry

I’m open to an improbable solution to this problem
maybe there are gods and monsters, unicorns and goblins
but I’ve been made to never see
Shiva, Yahweh or the magic
because if I knew that those were real things
I’d be a dangerous fanatic
maybe I’m better suited to my purpose
without a faith that goes without abiding
maybe the order calls for my agnosticism
maybe all the miracles are hiding
from me
so I won’t go crazy

I highly doubt it
but as a long-shot theory
I would not completely flout it
maybe I’m a better man
without the strength of higher truth
maybe it’s within the plan
to be not drunk on absolutes
but it is in the plan
for others
