Sanity waning? in A small but passable life.

This morning started as usual. Wait for the bathroom light to come on. Mom is usually up early to pee, without the light, and then goes back to bed. Or if later, up for good turning the light on. I hollar “You up?” if she says “Yep” I groan, get up, make my bed, fold it up for the day and put on a pot of coffee.

The TV is turned on. And being Saturday, this results in a morning of channel surfing. Why?

I took my coffee outside and piddled a bit. I swept the patio, put the golf cart on the charger, and cut four low hanging fronds off the palm tree before someone got stabbed by them.

Mom had a hair appointment at 3:30pm. I was all packed up, ready for some pool lounging when she got a call changing her appointment to 11:30am. So much for pool time. I re-packed my knapsack for just a shower and walked to the shower.

I came back and we headed out.

The car looks like I hadn’t just scrubbed it days ago because when Mom went out last night it rained as soon as she pulled out from underneath the carport. And when it rains in the desert it rains mud. It hasn’t rained in over seventy days so of course it doesn’t rain unless the car is out in it. Figures.

While Mom was inside the beauty salon I went next door and wandered around someplace called The Arizona Store. Rocks, stones, beads, geegaws, and other assorted crap. I did find something special to buy for Daughter. I think she’ll like it.

I stopped in to check on Mom and say “Hi” to Nicky. I told her I didn’t need a haircut, that she was the last person to cut my hair (December 2014?) and that maybe not a trim or cut but blue dye and a tight perm? She liked that idea. Maybe next time?

We stopped by Ace Hardware to have a couple of keys cut and I found some rubber feet things to mount on the bottom of Mom’s chair to keep it from sliding across the floor every time she plopped down into it.

And then we went to a Mexican place we’d never tried before for lunch. It was great and we had to bring leftovers home. And still, I haven’t found sweet iced tea yet. Got to add your own sugar.

I guess I could have gone to the pool when we got home, but I fixed Mom’s chair and then opened up the laptop instead. I’m still here. Mom is taking a nap so at least the TV is on in there instead of in here. Thank the universe for small things?

Daughter called last night. She had an appointment to take the van in to have the brakes looked at this morning. We’ve put 41,000 miles on the van since I bought it with 100,000 miles on it nine years ago and this is the first brake issue so that’s actually pretty good. She’s supposed to call me and let me know how it went. I believe she’s found a good mechanic so I’m going to be optimistic.

So yeah, here I sit. Still sane. For now.
