Woke up a little late today. Most of the essentials I’ll need were already laid out for me by Wife. I didn’t want to pack while she was still here… I don’t know why exactly but… I feel like if I’m leaving and she’s staying… it just… it’s better to wait until she goes to work before I start packing and loading the car.

As I was packing later, I was listening to music. I figured I’d share this because it is totally my sense of humor!

Loading my 4-door sedan with as much as I could (including a futon mattress so I have something to sleep on) was much more difficult than I imagined it would be. There is a lot to pack and not much place to put it in the car. Especially considering I’m doing everything solo (here and up there). I managed futon mattress, most of my clothes, kitchen stuff… and that’s it. Trip on Sunday? Is going to have to be furniture (somehow!), electronics (like TV and Computer), the rest of my clothes and a bunch of other stuff. I just have to think “What can I absolutely do without for six days? Because… anything I get up there and realize “Oh shit, I need this”… I can always come back down next Friday night and grab. But… I just have to make sure I can survive for five days while surviving the first five days of my job. That’s the focus for packing this weekend!

Laira (Car Name) ONWARD!

After that six hour drive a few things are obvious.

(1) That six hour drive SUCKS! And it is my future. Because… I will very likely do 3 hours back to Omaha every Friday and 3 hours back to Pocahontas every Sunday until Wife can join me.

(2) For division and possession of belongings… this sucks. If Wife and I were getting separated or divorced… anything I don’t have with my “Up North” (as I’ll start calling it) I could purchase and replace. But since this is all temporary and she (and our stuff) will be heading North within the next two months… I just have to deal with half of what I need being down here.

(3a) It is going to SUCK not having a bed. Honestly. I knew that going into this. But… still worth mentioning. It is going to SUCK not having a bed.

(3b) On a similar note… it is going to SUCK not having a desk for my computer. I can’t move my current desk and there are no office furniture stores within MILES Up North. I’m going to have to grab some kind of folding table thing from Target or something on my way up there this weekend.

(4) Oooh, the bedroom in the temporary space is claustrophobic cramped as shit. I get it… it is temporary. The place we’ll actually be moving into is glorious, beautiful and spacious… but for the first several weeks, I have to be in a room that will fit ME, the futon mattress, and MAYBE a lamp. The closet in this “so called master bedroom” isn’t even wide enough to shut when I have my suits hanging in it. The closet can’t shut because my suit coat is too broad? TINY. Irritating. But… necessary as I need to start my job on Monday.

(5) The place… just feels dirty. Maybe it is because I’m a snob, sure. But… ugh… I can tell I’m likely not going to enjoy this temporary situation.

Also, random stuff… I read EVERY cracked.com article dealing with CosPlay or Conventions. Because… Anime, Video Games, Comic Books: Hooray. Sad part is? Other than Halloween… I’ve never really CosPlayed and I have yet to go to a Convention. ANY convention. O Comic Con? Nope. AnimeIowa? Nope. I’ve never even gone to a FreeComicBookDay event. And… it is funny. I don’t do it because I’m ashamed of the hobby. I don’t do it to keep myself separated from others. It is the same reason why I never really passionately talked about Comic Books until Law School. Either… I wind up talking to someone whose passion for “Comics” is super intense, but all they know is the movies and get outright hostile when you talk about the Comic Books.... and those people piss me off. If you start your “I love the Joker” conversation with a shitty Heath Ledger impression saying, “Do you wanna know how I got these scars?” I already don’t want to talk to you. Call me a snob; that’s fine. But… it is THE JOKER! An internationally famous fictional character that has been around for 76 Years! (First appearance, April 1940). If you want to have a passionate discussion about the character… and all you can do is talk about Heath Ledger’s depiction… I’m bored and a little annoyed. So I’d either be with those people… who I don’t want to talk to. OR I’d be with people who could remember every intricate detail from everything they’ve ever read or done. I love Star Trek; but when you start talking about how influential “The Long Night” was to Ferengi culture… I’m lost and intimidated and honestly… feel like a lesser fan. It wasn’t until Law School that I met people who were In Between… like me. The people who could talk about the vast array of Geekdom with knowledge and respect; but weren’t going into the most esoteric references for the sake of “weeding out the non believers.” And frankly… I think I avoid Cons and CosPlay for the same reason. I don’t want to walk in somewhere wearing a Miroku disguise and have any of the following interactions:
(1) Wow… you’re waAay too fat to be Miroku;
(2) Hey, dude, the hell are you dressed as?;
(3) Remember that time when Mushin and Nihongo went after Naraku? You don’t know what I’m talking about? Then why the hell are you dressed like that?!
(Inspired by reading THIS cracked.com article about conventions)

And… since I can feel the MMO Bug coming on again (A moderate replacement for social interaction while I’m in tiny town by myself)… here’s a fun video from The Guild!
