primary burner in poetry

what’s gonna pull you back from the glow
what’s gonna disconnect you from the bliss
what’s gonna shortcut the reward you think you know
what’s gonna bring you back to this
back from the teetering abyss

you watch the evening news
the world feels so far away from you
it’s just distant emissions and
there’s not a whit that you can do
you watch until it feels true
the program programs you
then you leave it all up to the few

what’s gonna pull you from this fool’s heaven
what’s gonna pull you from the lies at eleven
what’s gonna stop you from just giving up
from being convinced of your helplessness
by all this profitable stuff
