A Certain Kind of Grumpy in Everyday Ramblings

I am happy with the composition here, just love it, but oh to have a lightweight SLR with a polarizing lens…

A new camera is on my wish list as well as a new laptop, bed, yoga mat… you get the idea. First though, my teeth.

A couple of nights ago I was able to eat carrots! Its been a bit over three weeks. I have to be very careful and only eat on one side of my mouth. S told me on our way out at the end of the new Wednesday class that she thinks my affect is much better after the surgery. S watches me with her special nurse’s eye and I adore her for that.

And I am slowly, deliberately feeling a bit better each day. I ran intervals on the track earlier in the week for the first time in about nine months.

The days are getting longer up here on our side of the equator and oh what a joy it is to have just a little more light, a little more warmth. The rains came back though yesterday. We are going to tip a little over into the above average category for the month but (as everyone else is experiencing) it comes all at once in these big unexpected whooshes. Oh joy.

The bagger at the grocery, said in a bit of an alarmist way yesterday as I had her fill my pack (because I forgot my reusable bag), “You’re walking?!?”

I am thinking about signing up for Uber. We have it here and a lot of folks in my building complex use it as well as those wonderful Smart Cars.

I was listening to America’s Test Kitchen the other day and on it the New Yorker writer and former Parisian resident, Adam Gopnik talked about being stuck in Portland last month on a lecture tour because of the big snow in New York. He said that this one restaurant in a bit of a seedy neighborhood that I walk by all the time near the ballroom where I used to swing dance, is as far as he is concerned, the best restaurant in the country right now! Wow.

He made an effort to pronounce the name of our river properly but didn’t quite make it. :) Will-Lamb-Ette. Willamette.

Not to worry, I have to write out all kinds of things phonetically to pronounce them even sort of right. I am taking a class starting in a few weeks in the Bhagavad Gita and if I am looking at the word I can say it correctly but if I am not I stumble. Bog-a-vod.

To get ready for the class I am listening to a short audiobook of study questions of key points for new yoga teachers and I did not read the reviews before I downloaded it. The author considers herself to be a poet and she clearly has had some training in poetry. She intersperses this commentary on The Gita and interesting questions with her own poems.

Make me care… sweetie!

Why should I care about you, our your poetic stand-in washing the dishes with a hand crocheted wash rag looking out at the ferry (which I can’t tell if it is a fairy or a ferry)? And what does that have to do with the mighty archer Arjuna having a life changing discussion with Krishna out on the battlefield???

I would be a horrible writing teacher. I think it is because I still have an attachment to the fruits of my labors in terms of writing that I do not have when it comes to teaching yoga. Everybody can do some form of yoga that can benefit them on a number of levels. There is no good or bad yoga, but there is safe and appropriate yoga.

On Sunday I chatted up a man about my age with a big SLR with a giganto lens at the eagle release and he was dismissive of my question about, well, shooting daffodils without glare… He was a grump.

I think I am a poetry grump and at some point I am going to need to come to terms with that.
