First Try out Done Saturday, January 22, 2011

First try out went pretty much like I expected. They helped me figure out proper grammar and now I have a "call back" after I practice what I learned and go back again and show what I have come up with. I have been practicing like mad. It's a little harder than I thought it would be, but it's not impossible. I will just keep at it until I do it... and I will do it. This is my last chance to perform on a stage and it's a dream for me to do again. Ever since I was in highschool I knew I'd never be able to perform again. Not a lot of people know it, but when I am on stage I am not shy. It's just everywhere else that I am shy!

I met a lot of people in the sign language program. They are all so nice. This experience is going to make me want to change my major to ASL, but I know I can't do that. I can't start over. I have to finish what I started (sonography) and then after that go back so ASL. That's my plan and I have to stick to it. It's the smart thing to do.

There were a lot of people there practicing in the halls. They were REALLY good. No I mean, REALLY good. Someday I would like to be that good. However, I know it's not an over night thing. I just have to keep going. This performance thing is a huge start. I am forcing myself to surround myself in the deaf community. It's the only way I am going to really learn. The problem I have is that I am social phobic. I will only go to one gas station because new ones scare me. I only go to one specific McDonalds because a new one would make my blood pressure go up. I wouldn't drive through a drive through until I was 18 years old in fear that everyone working there was inside laughing at me. So, forcing myself to communicate with the deaf culture is extremely scary because I don't know very much ASL so I can't really talk to them. And when people speak ASL to me, it's worse. I can't undstand them! I say, "slow please!" and they always smile and slow down for me. Blah. It's just hard I guess.

That is all for now. I need to study Anatomy. I don't wanna.
