Trying Out Thursday, January 20, 2011
I am determined to do some things this term that are fun and new to me. I have 2 ASL classes (ASL 2 and Fingerspelling) I am hoping to learn a lot of asl this term. I enjoy learning it a lot. The grammar part sucks and is really hard, but learning any new language isn't easy.
So onto the fun stuff. This term I am trying out for a Sign Language show my college puts on. (SODA Group) It's called Star Search. What it is, is a show where students and people from the deaf community come together and Sign to songs. They sign, dance, and it's a lot of fun to watch. I have seen two of their shows and it's awesome to watch. Since the first show I saw I knew I wanted to be part of such a fun atmosphere. Also, it would force me to be active in the deaf community which I am having a really hard time doing. I am really coming along on my signing skills, however, I have a really hard time understand what is being signed to me. It's just so fast and if there is a fingerspelled word in the mix consider me lost. I am hoping more and more exposer to ASL will help me learn to communicate in ASL better. "They" say to learn Spanish the quickest move to Spain. That's the theory I am going on.
My try out is Saturday. I have been emailing the SODA group and they are actually going to help me "gloss" the lyrics and make sure my grammer and everything makes sense. Then a week from Saturday they are going to re-audition me. It's very nice of them to do this. Everyone else is auditioning on Saturday. I am kind of getting two chances! It's because I explained to them that I am only in sign 2 so I feel I don't know enough to properly sign a song with out help from someone fluent in ASL. They were completely understanding.
My other class is human anatomy. A lot of it is review. A lot isn't. LOL!
That's all for now.

RYN: I actually liked going to a private school. Like you said, the classes were smaller. I feel like I learned a lot. Once in high school I didn't have to worry about what to wear. Although I wasn't religious taking religion classes wasn't that big of a deal. Just another class, studied the material, try to get a good grade. On the occassions I had to go to religious services I didn't mind that either. I was happy with the experience. [EverMore22] [p]
