Lily Signs New Words, On Mother's Day Sunday, May 09, 2010

Today was simply the best mother's day any mother could ask for. Lily, who is now 18 months old, was a complete joy.

I went to my mom's house and Lily and I spent the day there with my mom and my dad. Then my sister and her husband came over and we all went to a petting zoo. Lily was getting tired by then and all the animals scared her. They were playing music there and that got Lily's attention so we walked over there. Lily started dancing like crazy. A small crowd gathered and my heart was just bursting with pride.

At the end of the day I was packing stuff up getting ready for the trip home. Lily was in the car all buckled up and I was sitting in the drivers seat. My mom was waving goodbye and Lily was waving bye bye and saying bye bye to Grandma. Then Grandma signed "I love you" in ASL and Lily held her hand up and signed "I love you" right back. My heart melted and it took all my strength to not cry happy tears. There is simply nothing better than seeing your child say I love you for the first time. I have been signing it before I close the door when I lay her down for a nap or for the night. I also sign it occasionally when I feel like it. She hadn't ever signed it back.

Lily was just wonderful today. She just makes me so happy. I don't know what I did to have God give me such a wonderful little girl. She just makes me feel so wonderful. I can't imagine my life with out her. Today simply was the best mother's day ever.
