progress in poetry

when you bury something deep down inside
realize that you are planting a seed
consider the future yield and consider
your future needs before you do that
even when you incubate something good
sometimes it is maddeningly slow then
sometimes a new development comes along
all that work you put into changing you
finally comes into effect it’s amazing
It’s like you were doing your homework
for months or years it felt like it was
for no reason but the test finally came
up and you aced it I’m lookin’ for the
new test to ace so I feel it very much
when the time comes to find out
if I yield a bumper crop or
if I yield bitter fruit all
that I can hope for is that
I can tell the difference
one way or the other
