the track palin blues in poetry

when did it become patriotic
to hate the best things about America?
our public schools, our infrastructure
our attempts to be a real melting pot?
why do these open-carry open-threat
low-lives get to set the definition
and call themselves the patriots?
how did believing government can’t
work become the patriotic position?
how many oil billions did it take
bled on in to effect that shift?
how much better would we be if all
this time & money put into trying
to start a second Civil War were
put toward helping each other?

still I don’t have all the answers
even if I had all the answers it
wouldn’t be enough if I did not
understand which of the questions
were the most important to ask
I sure don’t know that
so I’m asking everything I can ask
so I’m hoping that something sticks
so I’m wondering why equality stopped
being the provenance of the patriots?
