They build Potemkin Villages of success to sell degrees and
get cheap assistants for a little while until they’re disposed of
Panorama City wants to pretend that its Van Nuys and
Van Nuys wants to pretend that its Sherman Oaks and
Sherman Oaks wants to pretend that its Studio City and
Studio City wants to pretend that its Hollywood
Hollywood wants to pretend it isn’t a sweatshop and
Silver Lake wants to be Williamsburg Brooklyn so bad, brother
it tears out its ironic mustache from the stress of the wanting
ain’t nothin’ north of Panorama City but swap meet thrift shops
ain’t nothin’ south of Hollywood but Disneyland and sand
it’s all just according to what the good Lord planned
or maybe the plans of that Other Guy
