Of course, I can’t talk to wife about work or interviews or anything. It is funny… I talk to my parents about working in the jail… they immediately focus on the dangerous lack of security and encourage me to “Only do as much as I think I need to.” Work Crush says, “It is okay to stop caring about a job that treats like shit and puts you in danger.” Wife says, “You need to work more hours so we have enough money when we move and you don’t have a job.” Funny how one sentence (and a repeated sentence, mind you) can contain so much insult. (1) Compared to the others; it shows no concern for the relative danger I’m placed in. (2) It presumptively states that I will not be able to find gainful employment in the next 6 months. (3) It completely ignores the fact that, in order to seek employment elsewhere… I need to spend time looking. Plus… she wants me to exercise more and do more around the house. I honestly should do more of the latter. But… c’mon.... there are X hours in a day. I can make it to DRs appointments, help around the house, exercise, and look for a job… OR I can spend hours and hours in a dead-end thankless pay nothing job. Yeeeeeeeah. But I do have to admit… the two things that sting the most? (1) Wife says that all the time.... all the time: “You need to work more hours so we have enough money when we move and you don’t have a job.” As though if she doesn’t say it enough, I won’t realize how she feels. (2) The “you don’t have a job” thing just feels so bitchy. I get it. She honestly doesn’t understand why it upsets me. She thinks it is a petty distinction that doesn’t matter. But would it kill her to say “when we move if you don’t have a job”. Like… I get that she is worried about a worst case scenario… but “when we move and you don’t have a job” is just… such a shitty way to say it. “When we move if you don’t have a job.” OR “Work more hours so that, when you get a job, we can afford a bigger down payment.” Or… something. And this is a huge primary difference between Wife and I. Every word has meaning, and how we arrange words affects those meanings. To her… she wants to say what she wants to say and the world can deal with it. But then she gets upset when a customer thinks she’s being bitchy. Or when I get “nit picky.”
