Just like every day. in A small but passable life.

I’m losing track of time or losing my mind or maybe a little bit of both. I know things are written down as they occur, here and elsewhere, but I’ve never gone back to look. So it was last night when I remembered that I had gotten dressed in street clothes, not two weeks ago, but last Saturday. Liam Dog and I had went out into the little dab of snow that had fallen. I should have remembered that.

Anybody notice anything yet? Anything different in your part of the planet?

The DOW has tanked over 2000 points, from somewhere above 18,000 to below 16,000 points over the last couple of months. (486.84 points so far this morning, as of 11:57am CST) The price of crude oil has tanked around $80 a barrel, to below $30. And Walmart just announced the closure of 269 stores, laying off about 10,000 workers.

In a world that runs on the concept of supply and demand, I’d guess that demand has tanked. (But Newspeak tells us things are getting better?)

I mean, how much plastic fantastic cheap disposable shit made in China from oil can the world actually consume?

Daughter just got back from taking her van to her mechanics for an estimate. The heater core valve replacement estimate was $40 cheaper than the place who told her about the problem (the tire shop). The rough running was diagnosed as the distributor cap, rotor, plugs and plug wires needing replacing. That could make sense. I bought the van with 100,000 miles on it in July 2007. It now has 140,000 miles on it. So, at least 40,000 miles. It just couldn’t hurt to have some general maintenance done. Her mechanic wants $370 for that. I told Daughter we could do that labor. We could have done it the day we had to take the passenger seat out to get the engine cover off when we replaced the air filter. So yeah, all we need is the parts and a warmish day since we’d have to work outside.

Her mechanic said the van was running remarkably well for being so ancient. (It’s a 1993 model.)

And like I told Daughter, it’s either keep the van running or go back to driving the Volvo. She shuddered at that thought!

They are leaving me alone with Asscat today while they take a road trip to her Mum’s in Crackerville North. (I just haven’t been in the mood to burn fossil fuels lately. I’ve got over 7000 air miles over the past year to make up for. My bad.)

So yeah, another lazy day for me coming up. Just like every day.
