New Book in New Diary

I started reading a new book yesterday. Winds of War by Herman Wouk. It is a book about an American family who get caught up in World War II. Then Henreys consist of Victor Henry and his wife Rhoda. They have three grown children two sons and a Victor Henry is a commander in the Navy. He gets assigned as naval attaché to Berlin just before the war, He has one son in Italy working for a Jewish author Aaron Jastrow. He has a niece living with him Natalie Jastrow. He falls in love with the woman but she is interested in Leslie Sloat who works for the State department

Just before the war starts Natalie decides to visit Sloat in Poland The Jastrows are from that country and she wants to meet her relatives. They make it to Poland right when Hitler and Stalin announce a non aggression pact. Despite Sloats objections Natalie and Byron make it to village where their relatives liver. The family is having a wedding. Day after the wedding Germany invades Poland

This book came out in 1971 It was a best seller back in the day. I remember reading it then I am enjoying reading it again.
