Somewhat busy. in A small but passable life.

Friday the washer and dryer were installed on the back porch. The set is a matching Frigidaire set. No fancy electronics, just the old fashioned buttons and knobs. Daughter helped me carry them in and get them set up. After we figured out which faucet was hot and which was cold we hooked up both hoses but left the hot turned off. No need for hot water for washing clothes. Both units were also leveled to perfection. And there was an existing heat tape so we plugged that in. It may not be needed but it is extra insurance against freeze-ups. The first load in the washer was perfect. Rock solid performance with no shimmy, shake, or excessive noise. The dryer, on the other hand, has a squeak from the deepest depths of Hell. I popped the top but didn’t see anything out of the ordinary. I’m going to have to remove the back and do some investigating. It does however, dry the duds.

Daughter paid $75 for the pair. I think she did well. They should pay for themselves in a couple of months.

Yesterday I walked over to the library to pick up the book that was waiting for me and return the last book. The first book of this year is a non-fiction. I also found another new Dean Koontz added to my bestseller list.

I said I wouldn’t, but I can’t help it. I’m going to make a political comment. “How ‘bout those Republican candidates, eh?” Can anyone seriously say that they want ANY of them to be president, with his finger on the launch button? The ones in the lead are proudly fascist, racist, and beyond stupid.

And has anyone told Trump that the people who really run the country would sooner assassinate him than see him in office?

OK, we’re fucked. Time to move on.

Of the five series I’m watching now, four are on hiatus: Grey’s Anatomy, Game of Thrones, Orange is the New Black, and The Last Man on Earth. But Downton Abbey starts up again this evening. Good times.

I finally thought of a New Year’s resolution. By the end of this year I want to be down to the long sought after “two boxes, two bags”. I’m almost there anyway, with some modifications. I did live for about five months total last year in the desert with just what I’d brought in the carry-on. And last March in the forest I had just my backpack and a milk crate full of grub. And there were those years I lived in the van with everything I needed in there with me.

It’s sitting right here in my lawn chair surrounded by my piles of gear and stuff that I get a little overwhelmed.

And the stuff on my Amazon wish list waiting to be added to the pile.

Of course I could always just walk away from all of it.

It’s thinking about that first step that always sucks.

Anyway, I’ve got a book to read.
