Holiday Sundry in Everyday Ramblings

Someone in the neighborhood hung Christmas ornaments from each of the dim light fixtures is the scary curved pedestrian tunnel that is a graffiti magnet and a garland at each end too. It made me chortle in delight walking through there.

The giant martini glass is back.

There was a huge gorgeous red-tailed hawk in one of the trees right by the track Friday night at dusk maybe five feet away totally fearless of the older woman standing underneath and admiring her. We chatted. For once I was glad to have just missed my bus.

I took a picture but you literally can’t tell the hawk from the tree, the light was so low.

It didn’t rain for most of the day yesterday. Whoa was it nice to see something that resembled light.

The Christmas boats couldn’t have their parade last night because the river is full of debris and running way fast. So far though we have avoided any additional major flooding or a freeze so this is all good news.

We have a high wind watch as well as another rain front moving in tomorrow. This means downed trees so I have my fingers crossed we will be able to keep power. I know I keep talking about the weather but it is a particular issue here because we aren’t equipped to deal with it like many places. It becomes a bigger deal.

They said yesterday that this week the state officially moved off the drought maps.

I am ready to share both the cooler temperatures and some of our rainfall. I guess the weather gods don’t practice the middle way these days. Remember temperate? Sigh.

We are having a small potluck at work next week and this afternoon I will practice making a slow cooker butternut squash dressing with sourdough bread so I can take that to go with the ham someone is providing. Our employees from Southeast Asia will bring yummy things too. Many of them have moms at home that take care of the kids and cook for these things. What a treat.

I went to the store on Friday list in hand, a list I looked at a number of times in the store and I walked out without the squash.

Yesterday I picked up a handsome fresh one from the Farmers Market as well as eggs from the chicken ladies. The chicken ladies now have chicken lady aprons…. and of course a photo album of pictures of the chickens. This is Portland, you know.

My favorite egg guys didn’t have any yesterday. They are so beautiful, different colors, the eggs, not the guys. Though the guys aren’t bad looking either. :)

All the best to you here on this solstice eve. May your holidays be full of laughter and good cheer.
