unmanifest destiny in poetry

being too sure of things
it hardens you up inside
it leaves you ossified
hanging onto the assumed
and yet also unverified
it makes you old
it wears you out
so the fountain of youth is doubt

admitting you don’t know it all
it can keep you alive
it can keep you growing
give into the process of
constantly working toward knowing
but never quite getting there
it might feel like uneven ground
but there’s no need to despair
you’ll turn into stone before
you’ll get everything figured out
and the fountain of youth is doubt
