Some thoughts on Trump and a Nerdy Conversation in Day to Day

I’m not American and I don’t pretend to understand American politics, but this Trump clown is fascinating to me. Initially I assumed he was just another idiot who likes the sound of his own voice. But I’ve come to the conclusion that in fact, he might be quite brilliant. He is hyper rich after all, and you don’t get to be hyper rich by being stupid. Saying something as apparently ludicrous as, “lets ban all Muslims from entering the US”, would seem to be political suicide. It would be in my country. But in America it would appear that there really is no such thing as bad advertising, and despite widespread disgust, Trump’s poll ratings have actually “soared”, according to the Independent this morning.

Trump has also aligned himself with Katie Hopkins, who has come out in support of him in The Daily Mail. That would also be political suicide in my country. I’m pretty sure everyone this side of the Atlantic has worked out that Hopkins in fact simply shouts the most controversial thing she can think of in an attempt to get as much media coverage as possible, thus achieving her primary goal of remaining famous for another week. She has no influence, and is likely to be knifed in the street at some point. But her huge ego, world class personal insecurity, and desperate need for attention conspire to perpetuate quite a profitable career as a professional shit-stirrer.

I do think Trump has missed a trick however. He should have a squad of cheerleaders travelling round with him on his campaign. It would be hugely sexist and attention grabbing, attract all the people the other campaigns want to avoid, and he could call them “The Trumpettes”. Acres of free advertising.

Conversation I had with a theoretical physicist…

Me: Do quarks have mass?
Alan: Yes, who told you quarks don’t have mass?
Me: I heard in on a radio programme yesterday. I know protons and neutrons have mass and they are made of quarks. I was concerned that mass might be an illusory concept.
Alan: Ah, well that might be true, and I’ll have some of what you’re smoking.

Based on this conversation, I think I may have what it takes to be a theoretical physicist.

This weekend I fitted a new electric shower because the old one exploded. I really should shorten the pipe a little because it interferes with the spray hose a bit. It was however, on the whole, a successful installation.

Watched Walking Dead Night, mid-season finale. I am looking forward to second half of the season. Glenn is not dead and the only one who can save the compound now that the tower has collapsed and breached the wall.

I have been attempting to play “when I’m cleaning windows” on ukulele this weekend. I can do everything except make the chord changes quickly.
