One of the experiences most here cannot attest to is the so called hippie experience. Although surely the bright folks here know of Woodstock, the turmoil over Vietnam and college unrest it looks nothing like “back in the day.” Sadly, as you can see by my age I am only too aware of such matters and was right in the middle of it all. With so many decades gone by the reality of what it was like to be a flower child has (as with so many things) lost it’s clarity.
It was a time of quiet rebellion on the social scene and a bit noisier on the political topics of the day. I must admit my haircut budget was zero and with parents who had issues with drinking coming home in a timely manner or looking clean cut and all American was not a priority.
It was merely a blending of culture. One would hang, smoke and drop acid/ mescaline here and there and basically keep adults off your back by making the required appearances at school and home. I spent a lot of time in the great outdoors. Camping, if that is the right word. Fucking around with friends. I think I would be dead if if weren’t for college to make greater demands of me. Although it was an alcohol soaked experience at least the hard drugs were less prevalent. You’d fail out and college was much to exciting for that.
So to most I may be some old guy hanging around trying my chops at writing but if anyone is interested in tales from those days ask. I am truly an open book.
