Paris in Adventures in paradise

Paris has been a pretty incredible experience. Not gonna lie.

Everyone is just getting on with their lives. I haven’t even noticed anyone freaking out or being worried. The only presence is the military guys walking around with guns, which is a little intimidating each time we walk past each other - mainly at train stations or popular locations. They are just there to protect, but it makes things so real each time I see them.

The French have been lovely. I arrived here to supposedly meet my friend at the Champs-Elysse train station, but he was nowhere to be seen, and I’ve had nothing but problems with trying to get roaming data in every European country. The amount of money I have blown on roaming charges which literally last me 10 minutes or don’t work at all has been crazy.
It blows my mind that this shit is still an issue in this day and age. I’ve accumulated three different sim cards so far and am considering a fourth and even a fifth, just because buying a new SIM in each country I arrive in is SO much fucking similar than going through the drama I’ve had so far. Unreal.
But then that’s not always easy also, because everything is in a language I don’t understand, so I’m having to guess what terms and conditions I’m agreeing to etc etc.

I eventually found them when I changed back to my UK sim so that my friend could contact me, because he didn’t have my Netherlands number, nor could I communicate via data because it just never worked for me, and wi-fi is SO fucking scarce in these countries. I mean, I can find it sometimes, but man, it’s been shit trying to. Especially when I’m relying on Google Maps to find places when I don’t know where the hell I am haha! It’s definitely been an experience, that’s for sure.

I’m in my third day in Paris, with one to go. The hotel is quite nice and is an upgrade from the hostels I’ve been used to. They also provide a free breakfast each morning, which is delicious! I’ve had so many croissants and nutella it’s crazy. We climbed the Eiffel Tower on the first night. That was incredible. We had a tour guide who told us so much info, so that was awesome, and we were his only group. We haven’t had any lines anywhere we’ve gone (which I guess is natural, given what happened only this past week).

FUCK it was cold up there!

Yesterday we went to Disneyland. It took ages to get out there, but it was pretty awesome. The weather was shitty and raining and wet and windy, but we still had a good time. I guess both that, and the circumstances helped us with not having to wait in any lines there either (yay!). Initially, I wasn’t having a good time there though. The first two rides I went on made me really ill with my motion sickness. The first being Space Mountain and the second was only a 4D film, but MAN I did not feel well after either one. So I was the sad-sack whom had to sit out the other thrill-rides whilst the others went on them all without me. I couldn’t risk it. :( Then I couldn’t lose them either, because once again, my phone was useless to me because not only could I not use data, here you get charged to receive calls. At home there’s no charge for that kind of crap. Different cultures I guess.

Today we went to the Lourve and saw Notre Dame. Although it was POURING rain so we didn’t want to rain in the pouring rain to enter the dome, so I just took a few snaps of it.

I have so many MANY pics, but I can’t be bothered uploading them all! I sort of did on Facebook with the pics here but I’m so behind on the older pics from Cologne and Amsterdam.

So I think I’ve done everything touristy I can do in Paris. Tomorrow we are going to some underground place with heaps of skeletons, which I haven’t heard of.

All I could think of whilst at the Lourve was Madonna’s song “Masterpiece” haha. Typical music-lover me.
