What's happening here in At the foot of the hill

There is so much going on in the world. It worries me. So today I am closing my eyes and pulling the boundaries up close. Thinking about what is actually going on in my world.

It’s been a busy week here. Monday I entertained my bridge club. Bobby did his volunteer work at church.

Tuesday I went to Bible study. Interestingly, we finished our study of Daniel… Those prophesies. Wow! Bobby went to the clinic for blood work.

Wednesday he went for his annual check up at the VA. I stayed home and did the laundry and read “The Girl on the Train”. It held my attention, that’s for sure, but I can’t say if I really liked the story or hated it.

He had to go to the dermatologist Thursday and get yet another “bad spot” zapped on top of his bald head. I went along in case he didn’t feel like driving home. He was fine, though, and we got home earlier than we thought. We had canceled our bridge group. When we came in the building our teacher was in the lobby and, after inquiring how Bob was, said she hadn’t played cards all week and was depressed. I said let’s grab another of the ladies who love the game and go play at my place…so we did. Had to quit after an hour or so because the other lady wanted to walk her dog before it got any darker… I made ham & eggs for Bob’s and my supper.

And now it’s Friday. It’s my turn today. I go to the Eye Surgery facility to meet with the doctors for my “pre-op.” They will take measurements of my eye among other things to make sure I’m ready for the cataract surgery in a couple of weeks.

Thanksgiving is next week! Really??? I’m kind of ahead of that game for a change. Mike (son) called a few days ago and said that he, his wife and younger son will be headed to North Dakota for the Holiday. ( Her dad’s health is failing and she feels she needs to go “home” as often as possible these days. I understand that.) And, by the way, the older son is coming home and will hang out with us on Thanksgiving.

We had talked earlier about going to a nice restaurant for Thanksgiving, but, besides costing an arm and a leg, one needs reservations. No pinning down a 23-year-old bachelor from out of town for a time line…

I haven’t cooked much at all since we moved into this apartment, let alone a traditional Thanksgiving Dinner. And I got rid of all but the barest of cooking equipment. One of my friends said we could get a complete turkey-and-all-the-trimmings dinner right there at the grocery store. Bob got on line and ordered dinner for 6–that is the smallest and should provide left-overs for Bob and me and lots to send home with Dusty. Now I’m kind of looking forward to it.
