Oh dear, I am falling really behind, will have to try to catch up.

My mum’s cousin says I look like my mum but, when I look at individual features, I really can’t see it so I guess it must be the shape of my face or something. I did inherit her feet. Mum had flat feet and I was born with them. As a child I was made to wear special shoes. They had to be lace up, which would be fine now, but in those days little girls wore sandals or bar shoes so I was odd one out. Special straps were fitted over my shoes to lift my arch. I was picked on and teased for years and they did no good at all. My feet remained flat. Nowadays they say flat feet don’t matter if you are born with them only if the arches drop later, which makes me rather angry as I could have been spared all of that teasing.

I have a similar taste in music to my Mum and a similar love of nature, not sure if those things are partly learned, but it can’t just be that as my father’s taste in music was totally different and I never really learned to love that, although I did try in order to please him

On the whole I don’t think I am much like my mother. She was very much your typical homemaker, and good cook. She made her own and my clothes. She even went on a course in housewifery after she married, imagine them trying to run a course called that now! As a parent she brought me up the way she had been told was right. She was conventional and rather old fashioned. I am not very domestic, more your women’s lib type and I questioned everything when it came to raising the children and read endless books on childcare. Then I ended up making much the same mistakes that she did, namely I gave them what I would have wanted instead of what they wanted.
