We have a student who does long division…addition. :-S

Example: 342/39.

She’ll add 39 plus 39, and when that answer is less than 342, she’ll add another 39, and when THAT answer is less than 342, she’ll add still another 39, and…

You get the picture - and I’m sure you can sense my frustration with - certainly not the students, but how math is (not) being taught in our schools.

Did I mention she was in 5th grade? :-S

I’ve printed some long division work sheets for her and other students to practice on, but we are NOT preparing our kids for life ahead, and in that regard, we are failing.
