postcard from the Earth in poetry

Like it or not, this planet is a people zoo
we’re all being judged on the tricks we can do.
I don’t have many but I have a few.

We don’t even jump for aliens
or beg for scraps from tourist gods
we dance for each other on and on
each of us thinking this our own
brief mortal coil panopticon
all believing we’ll all beat the odds
turn out to be the one living large
turn out to be the one in real charge
so we never try to escape and
chatter and dance like big dumb apes and
hell, even that’s even okay
if we can all admit it.

Eeek eek oo oo
greetings from the people zoo
wish you knew you were here too.
