Interesting things....
It was like I was on call today. Got a call at 2 that I didn’t need to come in to the Jail today because of the Government Holiday… then I got a call at 2:30 that I did need to come in to the jail today by 3 because we found out someone else was quitting. OOooookay. Frankly, just means more money for me anyway. Just today and tomorrow I’ll have worked 12+ hours.

And seriously… this Law Library Job Addition… is going to make for some very interesting unfortunate days. I’ll be working more, so yay money. But the job itself? Certainly continues to fan the flames of the Prosecutor within me! Why did I want to be a prosecutor in the first place? Somewhat self-focused reason: If I have to follow the rules, everybody has to follow the rules! OR, to put it in a more mature manner, the rule of law should apply to everyone equally; failure to conform one’s behavior to those laws should be met with fair and even punishment. Working in the law library?! Oh Holy Fucking Hera!!! I have to constantly temper my anger and keep myself in check. Constantly. I keep wanting to scream I know you think you’re special; but when you’re caught with 64 grams of cocaine and $3900 in cash, of course you’re being charged with Intent To Deliver! And, no, I don’t care if you think it should be a viable defense that the cash was for something not drug related. That isn’t going to matter! Seriously… this job is going to drive me crazy.

1- You were deported three times for felony charges… came back… are convicted of Crack Possession with Intent to Distribute… and you’re asking me how you can get out of a 10 year sentence? Personal Response: Fuck off.
2- You think that the warrant the judge signed should be thrown out of court because the “N” on the signature is different from the “N” on a different page of the warrant? No, that doesn’t mean the police forged the signature and the fact that you think your interpretation of that signature should be considered legally significant makes me want to strangle you.
3- You were wanted for questioning by the Gang Taskforce and you were pulled over without having committed a traffic violation? No, what the police did wasn’t illegal. No, I don’t care what you say because it won’t change the fact that they were allowed to do that. Fine. If you want to sit here trying to argue the point with me for 20 minutes, you can (and did) but it doesn’t change anything.
4- Due Process is technically defined as your right of notice and a hearing. So… no, arresting you as you were leaving Wal Mart after stealing your 7th Laptop that day is not a violation of due process. I don’t care what your cell mate said. I don’t care that you want to explain to me that I’m not as smart as you are.
5- Sir, you already know it is a felony for you to possess a weapon, because you have been convicted of a number of Domestic Violence felonies. So, your girlfriend giving the police receipts that prove you recently purchased a handgun and 6 boxes of ammunition is not against the law… in fact, many would say it was in her best interest.
6- That’s kind of cute that you think you can’t be found guilty of stealing a car. I mean, you’re here… having specifically stated that you took a car without the owner’s permission… having hot wired the damned thing… but you’re certain they can’t convict you of stealing because you “intended to return it.” Good luck with that in court!

Seriously. Draining. Plus… I do try to keep my cool, act professional… I simply do the best I can. And then I have this/these assholes try to argue with me. Straight up try to argue with me. So, I simply say “Sir/Ma’am, I can point you to the books and the computers. If you have any further questions, I can tell you what I know but it is limited and not legally binding. Otherwise, have a good day.” Yeah. As good as it will be to have money coming in and something that will take my time… I’m going to have to explain to Wife that I now work in much the same capacity that she does… dealing with the criminally idiotic… and how we both might need to be a little more understanding, patient, and supportive of one another when we are at home.

With all of that in mind, I do have to admit… the whole job hunt thing feels like some kind of vengeful ghost in my brain… a haunting element that never lets me feel truly at peace about anything.
