Eighteen Days in Everyday Ramblings

I only have 18 more days keeping to this schedule, this crazy schedule that is doing a number on my ability to focus and be fully present.
This morning I worked very intensely, then taught and came back to work and it gets complicated trying to keep everything straight. And neither my students nor my employer are getting the best I can be.
My eye is much much better. I know it sounds weird to say this but I am so lucky in so many ways that this unfolded the way it did. I had really good treatment. The eye doctor I saw both Tuesday and yesterday afternoon is a professor at the institution for which I work, which besides having a medical school, a nursing school, and a school of dentistry also has an eye institute.
The fact that I was able to get a same day referral and my drugs all in one location is pretty amazing. A location I might add that is a 17-minute walk from where I live.
And at one point I was able to go get a Kale Lemon Ginger Banana smoothie while waiting. :)
So yes, I very much wish it hadn’t happened but if it had to…
I have three more Caregiver classes to teach and I was just heartbroken yesterday to find out that two of the patients on “our” unit died this week. That doesn’t happen very often. I taught both parents at various times of the 16-year-old and she was a lovely young woman. The younger one I interacted with out in the hall quite often, as he would run around in superhero costumes. Such wonderful happy energy there.
Pretty hard on the heart after a time. I am glad to be letting this opportunity go.
On a much more upbeat note, a nice knowledgeable repair guy came out yesterday and discovered that the reason I wasn’t getting any cold water in my new washer is that the original lines in were switched when this place was built so they were mislabeled and the installers didn’t check. He also fixed my dryer venting issue.
I love having energy efficient quiet appliances! Oh yeah.
Nimrod sent us our evaluation forms with our work objectives for the next six months and every one of them is about him. It is kind of like slipping into the Twilight Zone on a planet that is for Narcissists. You have to laugh. I mean seriously, one of my objectives is to, umm, teach him enough about what we do so that when he speaks about it to others he sounds good and they like him.
Even I couldn’t make something like that up.
Saint Joe and I have our work cut out for us.
In the meantime I am getting a haircut tonight and then working on my poetry project for as much of the weekend as I can manage.
Oh and it is my ex-husband’s 65th birthday today. How the heck did that happen? We’ve exchanged Facebook comments. I remember when we were in our 20’s consoling one of our bookstore customers who was in abject despair about turning 30 and not having written the Great American Novel yet…
