Lawyer stuff is done. in A small but passable life.

I had a good night at Rummikub Tuesday night. I won. It was a good game.

The last day of September and the first day of October were both 106 degrees, one degree off the record high for both days.

Mom and I headed out this morning to meet with the lawyer. We were just going close to downtown but it was still thirty-eight miles one way. Mom let me drive while she navigated. We got there fifteen minutes early. I met the lawyer and asked a few questions, Mom signed the papers for the trust and got the updated notebook, and then we left. That’s done for good, hopefully.

We stopped by the computer place and picked up Mom’s laptop. They were really busy. That’s an encouraging sign, I guess.

We stopped for lunch at In-and-Out burger. It was my first time ever. I was impressed. Good food. Simple menu. And about half the price of my previous favorite Jack-in-the Box. I had a double-double and a strawberry shake. Delicious!

We were done for the day.

When we got home Mom went to play cards. I called my sis-in-law to tell her the lawyer/trust fund stuff was done. I also told her that Mom wasn’t listening to me about her budget. We agreed to let Mom do whatever she wants to do with her money. Why not? She could be doing worse. We’ve also agreed that when everything is said and done, whatever is left will be split three ways with Sis’s portion going to her three kids.

And then sis-in-law, after telling me to “hold on a minute” several times, informed me that she was in the emergency room with my little brother because he was having chest pains, again. What the hell? My Sis has been dead less than a month and now my little brother has to spend tonight in the hospital because they don’t know what the exact problem is?

And I agreed with her not to tell Mom mainly because there is nothing to tell yet.

Anyway, it’s always something.

So I’ll sit here and wait for a call. Dammit.

Something about this video makes me hopeful for the future of humanity.
