We did not go on the organised trips - which were often very dear - and just did our own thing on shore in the places we visited. They all contained little gems which were worth discovering - especially the churches, which were all very different. Although the Basilica in Montreal was magnificent this was my favourite church - for its simplicity and design.
It was at Cap-aux-Meules on the Magdalen Islands in the Gulf of St Lawrence. A small place - but with a great cafe on the main road - the only road - and we walked along to find the church.
The light flooded in from a atrium in the roof - and although i am sure there was artificial lighting for those dark, cold snowbound winters there was none that day - just the light on the front wall above the altar - and the crucifix. Magicalt text
