I can’t pontificate enough about how awesome this game is. I was introduced to this game years ago, during Gaming Club at CCM. Some variations “keep score”, though we never did, so I never kept score when I introduced the game to my friends. Instead, The Great Dalmuti gets “the most comfortable chair”, and the greater peon either gets the least comfortable chair or stands (and is SUPPOSED to have the responsibility of shuffling/dealing). The game is based around capitalism/feudalism. Taxation requires the Greater Peon to give the Great Dalmuti their two best cards. The Dalmuti, in their infinite wisdom, picks any two cards they wish to gift the peasantry.

It’s good to be at the head of a socioeconomic structure.

Erik says I play “tantric dalmuti.” While everybody’s discarding their cards, which is the goal of the game, I’m holding back. …Then I discard all my cards at once. It’s dangerous, but it seems to work a lot. Old habit from Pinochle. I’m a sneaky bastard. I’m not a strict card-counter, but I do keep track of when certain strong cards are played, and correlate that with the strength of my own cards. No point in playing my strong cards if I think they’re going to be beat. As well, I try to keep track of how quickly people pass on doubles/triples.

Buy this game. Enjoy with your friends as they fan you gently and feed you grapes. It’s good to be the Dalmuti.
