The kids are down to their last week and a half of summer vacation. School starts September 9th. We are not doing too much during this last week. We have been to the beach a few times. The kids have been reading and playing video games. We have been watching baseball on tv.

My mom is in a rehabilitation center near where we live. She had a stroke and a urinary tract infection about a month ago. We had a care planning meeting today with the people who care for her today. Her memory is good. She has some weakness on her left side as a result of the stroke. At first she was not able to walk at all. She has regained much of her mobility but still has to be careful about falls. She has been getting herself in and out of bed when she is not supposed to. This is mostly what the staff at the rehab center is concerned about. They think she is not aware of her own safety. Her occupational therapist is working with her on this. Mom has always been somewhat impulsive and her limited mobility makes this dangerous for her now. I found out that Medicare will pay for one hundred days of physical therapy. Her Medicaid will cover what Medicare doesn’t. Because of this we have decided to have her stay at the rehab facility during this time. After that we will see where she is at and go from there.

We moved mom from the facility she was in to one closer to us a few days ago. The trouble has been that it was a stressful move for her and she has been having a hard time adjusting. She has been much more anxious and confused. The staff there thinks she will adjust to being there soon. They have given her some anti-anxiety medication.

My cousin’s eight-year old daughter just returned yesterday from a trip to Disney World. She went there with a friend and the friend’s grandparents. I had originally thought they were only going for three days but they actually went for six days. A long time for the grandparents with two eight-year-olds. They must be tired.

I went to Disney World the summer when I was sixteen. I remember going down there right after school ended. As we were entering the Magic Kingdom we saw Michael Jackson leaving. It was neat in an early nineties sort of way.
