Really bad news. in A small but passable life.

There was a phone call with Mom Tuesday evening. My Sis has been in and out of the hospital since starting her second round of chemotherapy. Complications of one sort or another. Now she has had another scan. The cancer has spread to most every organ. Sis has decided to stop the chemo and leave the hospital. She is being set up for hospice care at home. Not the home where she has been living, but another house where she’ll have a bedroom with it’s own bathroom. As soon as the pain is under control she’ll be moved. One of her sons has already visited and her daughter should have arrived yesterday. Her oldest son is deployed somewhere and his wife doesn’t even know where. (Getting ready for Syria? Who knows?) I told Mom to keep us updated.

My daughter got online and found two seats left on a flight on the 10th of September for $63. We talked about it and decided to wait until Mom says to come on out. Really, money is not the issue. Sitting on my hands here or there is the issue. I’d rather do that here.

Mom’s great-grandbabies due to arrive soon have all been sexed. My brother’s two daughters will have, first the youngest will have another girl in October , the oldest will be having another boy in December. And my Sis’s daughter will be having a boy in December. Them youngsters have been busy.

Yesterday I got dressed and went outside for the first time since I’d walked to the library to retrieve the current book, on the 6th. Yep, almost two weeks. So what? It was the day for it though. After a long hot and humid summer, this day was the first back down into the 60’s. So nice!

I took Liam Dog out for a walk. First time in months. Then when we got back to the house I cleaned and straightened up the back porch and then I went out and worked on that pile of grapevines that I’d pulled down out of the trees and cleaned up some other brushy messiness. The Liam Dog and I went for another, longer walk.

Later in the evening I made a huge pot of pasta and spaghetti sauce. Delicious! And we’ll have leftovers for DAYS!

All three of the youngsters here have started back to college this past week. Three? Yeah, Jassy’s friend Greg had been couch surfing here and there for awhile, but he moved a small travel trailer into the backyard. And this afternoon he went for a job interview at Panera. Liam Dog and Pete Dog get along fine. Ass Cat and Pete Dog won’t be friends anytime soon though.

Anyway, yesterday evening it was 65 degrees here and it was two hours earlier and still 98 degrees in Phoenix. I’d like to stay here for a few more months at least.

And now I’m re-thinking the multi-week backpacking trip I was wanting to do in October. I’d hate to be incommunicado with my Sis and her illness. Even if I had a phone card I’m sure most of the area I’d be hiking through would not have cell coverage, like a lot of places in the hills and hollars around here.

At least I won’t have to pack when and if I get the call. I’ve been packed up and ready to go for years now. Whatever.

Peace out.
