We don’t need to look at the calendar to know the school holidays have began, the weather has been grey and wet or sunny and cold, through June and July until last week we were having a summer; now I’m warring a fleece except in the middle of the day if I’m working.

I’m still selling off things we will not need once we move on, last night I was trying send an e-mail to some who wanted some Dark room equipment, he is in Scotland so I shall sort out a courier, I had already e-mailed some one who wanted a garden plaque, then the phone rang – a man who wanted a ladder I have on sale, he was keen and said he will be here in thirty minutes.

Then Lola was sick in the lounge, as I was going out with the little bag a man was coming up the steps ‘hi are you here for the ladder’ I said thinking he’s quick ‘no a plaque’ then I thought he’s very quick! I told him it was down in the garage, ‘I’ll just wash my hands and I’ll down’ I hadn’t told him where we are, most people get lost in Perrancoombe; it tuned out he was local – he was soon of with his plaque.

By then twenty minutes had passed, so Son and me had to get the ladder out quickly to be ready for the next buyer. Fifteen minutes latter a real toy of a mans vehicle arrived, a large off roader you need to take a good step up to get in, he reversed the Ranger up and round our drive, quite a good peace of driving at first go! He spent two minutes examining the ladder and said yes, it was a nice chap with a similar humour to mine, he had a surfboard in the back, he was about my age, he said he didn’t surf much now, once in while he puts on a wetsuit to tease granddaughter; much like my Daughter making me promises to never wear a wetsuit!

Once the deal was dun then the vehicle was altered to carry the ladder, and one long length of rope was used to tie the ladder down, then with a shaking of hands he was away.

By then my dinner was on the table, it was Sheppard’s pie and it was very good; a very popular comfort meal over here. Then I was back at my Mac and that e-mail, I typed out a short message and let my Daughter have a look at it ‘no I’ll write something tonight’!

Our television evenings are still going, so before that I phoned my Sister, we had a short chat, their second funeral of the week went will, my Brother-in-laws brother had driven them here and there, so his brother would be fresher for the trip to Portsmouth; then my Daughter had a chat with Aunty. It good that Daughter has a second person to talk with, and I suppose it is very good to talk with a close female.

After that it was television time, we watched three episodes of ‘Dad’s Army’ The first one had that classic line ‘Don’t tell him Pike’ after the submarine captain asks for Pike’s names after being making a joke about Hitler. I was about my Daughter’s age when Dad’s Army was first on, this year two more of the cast have died, Bill Pertwee and Pamela Cundell, now there is only Frank Williams – Reverend Timothy Farthing, and Ian Lavender – Private Frank Pike.

It was about midnight when I e-mailed ‘I will e-mail you over the weekend!’
