The car (minivan) deal went down yesterday. I played the role of unsuspecting giftee, but when I asked about how are we gonna do the payments and she told me she was giving to me, I was really touched. Had tears welling up and I would have cried if my sister wasn’t being a big idiot. LOL She whacked me on my arm a couple of times and I turned to her and said, “hit me again” to which we both laughed. I hugged her mother twice. We’ve always been cool though.
Then I got to thinking. I got options!! I called my mother and told her I had a surprise for her. She said, “What? You got a car?” So I laughed and said yes. So I will probably go and see her tomorrow. I’m going to get the grandkid and we are going to hang out a bit.
Options also include decided to do something or NOT. I have the right of refusal and I will be able to exercise this. I’m excited. I can get up and go anywhere I want. I can get up and travel to any part of the city at the pace I want to and not have to worry about someone elses driving (too much break useage, not paying attention to the road, unecessary speeding - though I’m guilty of that). My goodness. I must be getting old. ::tee hee::
Another set of options that I’m not so excited about are insurance. I find it unfair that my credit score be used to make my rate higher. I have NEVER in all the times I’ve had cars EVER had a good insurance rate. First time I bought my own car, my insurance payment was the sticker price of what my car note was supposed to be. $238 MONTHLY. That was GEICO. My car note ended up being higher than the price that was on the sticker. Bummer. As I was shopping for insurance, I called another agent and they told me what I had was a good rate. I called bullshit. Kind of didn’t matter. Shortly after, I lost most of the money I had coming in, car got reposessed and there it was.
Next car I bought for myself through a dealer I had to go through an insurance exchange agent that the dealership found. I hate middle men because that’s another way for rates to go up so everyone can get paid. I don’t appreciate that. 189 monthly.
Next car I bought out right and paid up the $400 something for the 6 months. Again, as you can see, it’s about $200 monthly. Part of it is if you live in the city vs suburbs which is unfair regardless of crime statistics. The credit score angle isn’t fair either. Poor, fair, average credit, how the hell do you expect someone to pay an arm and a leg for it?
Now that I think about it, I’ve only gotten full coverage too. I figure better safe than sorry and if there is an accident, why can’t my car be fixed too? I’ve not had any accidents that were my fault. I drive very cautiously. I’m always the hittee and not the hitter.
Maybe I will go with just liabilty this time around. Stop trying to be fancy. I know I can’t cover full coverage. I remember there was a time when, if you owned your own car, you didn’t need to have insurance. But now…sighs times are not so simple anymore.
Dah well.
I GOT A RIDE!!
Kindest regards,
Sister
