I have planned a full day tomorrow with my newest friend, Mandy. She is a widow who I actually knew prior to either of us losing our spouses. She worked in the Library I utilized as well as did her college age daughter. Two and a half months before Barbara, my wife died, her husband died while on a skiing trip with his friends. Shockingly sudden. She continued working 1 1/2 days a week at the Library as did her daughter.
It was only recently that I noticed her at a different light and as we mildly flirted and then went to dinner and after 3 dates she put a toothbrush in her bag. Our relationship has matured to a comfortable friendship. We like each other and are comfortable with each other. Nice.
Tomorrow we will drive, weather permitting, to a place named the Sculpture Garden. We both have visited there before but they have changed their exhibits. What they do is have life sized reproductions of famous art works. I don’t know what the new showings are but I do know I will like visiting them. I must not forget my camera for this trip.
Afterwards a dinner to be held at a place to be selected later and then back to my house to watch SNL. It is her time to cook breakfast.
Last night myself and two men from my Home Group visited another group and shared our recoveries with them expanding on how it was, what happened and then how we are today. It was very well received and I was gratified to notice about 20 people from a rehab there . A woman from the Saturday Morning Beginner Class showed up also in response to my invitation. I am instituting taking small groups of newbies out to speak after they reach 60 or more days. I think this may help their confidence and help them to get used to seeing their own part in their disease.
AA’s theme is not a life of misery without alcohol but rather the Joy of Living free of addiction. I am blessed.

What happened to Doris?
Yup, you do sound good. We have been railroaded into doing committee work for our local round up. It will be good for us. LOL

I think it's a good idea to have a hard look at how things are done in groups - there can be comfort & strength in routine, but being open to new ideas is good too. What a treasure AA & the people who keep it going are!
