I can sum up my current events in one sentence: People annoy me.
…Most of my time is taken up with the Very Important Case and the activities related to it. I’m a speaker on a panel tomorrow at a symposium, and there will also be a press conference that has been borne out of chaos and someone else’s agenda (she wrote a play based on the case and held up where the press conference could be, trying to get the play a public reading - no, the press conference is not about that play). Smart people make stupid decisions. At this point I want no part of it.
The press conference will take place at S’s office. One of the stupid decisions made placed it 20 miles away, but I said we’re shooting ourselves in the foot if we do that, especially when we have tribal leaders at the symposium who won’t want to be dragged that far away.
…S originally offered to have cookies for everyone, but the waffling around and indecision from those who are supposed to be high dollar experts ticked him off and he washed his hands of any preparation - which means I don’t get a cookie, and for that I said I don’t have to take part.
…Free Spirit and I met in 1993. His dream has always been to move to Oklahoma to be closer to our traditions. He received an Indian name because he was supposed to move here. He has asked me for years to let him know if an opening in his field ever came up, which it has and that I did. The job is basically his if he wants it, but now he’s calling me a bully when I counter his arguments.
I understand that he’d have to uproot and that’s a major life undertaking, but he’s had since we met to seriously consider the possibility.
…An invited speaker on my panel is the director of a national museum who has an employee telling our stories; we consider those sacred, to be told by certain people at certain times of the year. I complained to him in 2013, but he never responded; I also wrote to the board of directors and his boss, the undersecretary. The boss over the whole organization just started his job, so I haven’t written to him yet, but I plan to. I copied all the letters I wrote with the intent of giving them to the director, but I doubt that he shows up, and if he does, he won’t care.
…I found out that I’m giving a tour to visitors when someone sent me the day’s agenda. I hadn’t known beforehand.
…Update on my cat: her cancer is getting worse despite her weekly shots. Her demeanor, appetite, and activity level are still good, but the growths have increased in size with one on her front leg that gives her a slight limp. I found a treatment to try, but it’s too soon to tell since I just started less than a week ago, although one of the growths shrank but the other seems to have grown slightly. I’m watching her carefully - I don’t want her to suffer, but I don’t want to give up on her if there’s a chance.
…We’ve had meetings that may bring a program to the tribe. The person running it works for someone else but wants to transfer here; I used to baby sit her! I think it’ll go forward; everyone seemed on board. I’m glad. Win - win. She needs to come out of a stressful work environment, and I need the help.
…She’s also interested in ghosts.
…The hotel where the symposium is being held is haunted.
…My first real love helped with the restoration plans when that old hotel was saved from destruction.
…That’s all, folks!
