…so it’s time to make several decisions.
I made a list of all the things I volunteer for, and it sure explains the burnout I’ve been experiencing! There are thirteen activities; some monthly, some weekly, some political (argh!!!) - but all of them nibble away at my available time.
Time: something that cannot be replaced, so my hat is off to anyone who donates their time to any project or organization.
My involvement with the kids is not negotiable, nor is my position on the Urban Renewal Board, nor anything that makes the community better. (I enjoy turning wrenches on my vintage Allis-Chalmers tractors and going camping…but that’s a hobby! :-) ) But - I’ve realized that being part of so many activities may be preventing someone else stepping forward.
I’m stepping down from one activity as of May 31 (wait - that was yesterday! :-) ), but need to pare the list even more.
The political? I got an e-mail on Saturday from a member calling our actions ‘childish’ (What - my actions? The Board’s actions?), and another from the Board of Directors stating further work on this (historic item) needs more money to continue. Yes, money is a concern - and the funds we locals have raised has been ignored - but how long do we/I put up with the Board’s lack of leadership and accountability?
Mom’s 90th birthday is this year, so it looks like a trip to Rhode Island is in order!
