Week 29 Update Thursday, July 24, 2008

This update is full of good and bad news. Mostly bad news.

I failed my one hour glucose test. That meant I had to go take a three hour glucose test. I failed that too. What's that mean? It means that I have gestational diabetes. Now I must test my blood 4 times daily. Yep, I get to jab a needle into my finger four times daily. Not only that, I have to watch my carbs. I have been watching very closely every day. It's absolutely no fun. Even though I am keeping my carb intake at the proper level, my tests are coming back too high. My morning tests are the worst. After fasting I should be below 95. Mine are 106. After breakfast it should be under 120. Mine was 154. The 3 hour test they did on me, my numbers were 240! My dinner levels have always been ok.

The only good thing about this diabetes thing is, (if you can really call it a good thing) I won't be allowed to go past my due date. The problem gestational diabetes causes is large babies. This is why they won't let me go past my due date.

10% of women with gestational diabetes will develope it into type 2 diabetes. I am scared to death that's going to be me. With my levels being so high it really makes me scared. I am trying hard to eat well. I just want ice cream so bad... or something bad.... anything! UGH.

My house is gettng close to closing. We have to get it up to FHA code. This means I have to scrape the chipped paint off the outside of it and repaint. I can't do it because I am pregnant and if there is lead in the paint it could harm the baby. So my dad and brother have been working on it. I am going to try painting instead of scraping.

Work has been awful. With Angie's passing and Stephenie's vacation it has left me in the office alone. I have been so busy. I was just exhausted. Tomorrow is day 9 in a row. Two of those days were 11 hour days. Thank God I have the weekend off. I need to pack and clean this apartment. Kumbi came over and I was so overwhelmed I just went off on him. I was very close to tears. That sweet man cleaned my kitchen and took all the trash out for me. I immediately felt the stress melt away. I just needed help. On top of that, the stress has made my glucose levels high, I am sure. I have a doctors appointment on Wednesday so I can talk to her about it.

Other than all that, I am ok. I'll probably close on my house in about 2 weeks. When that happens, I will probably not have internet any longer. I will try to update at the library.

That's all for now. Oh, and if you guessed on the expectnet.com thing you may want to change the guess now knowing I can't go past my due date!

I'm sorry. I will keep you in my thoughts. [prettylittlekitty] 7/24/2008 9:26:27 PM
My fingers hurt in sympathetic pain.

Yay for closing in two weeks! That's pretty exciting stuff :-)

Do you have to do the finger? I have seen people do other spots that aren't as sensitive.

I hope you can get the house ready in time. You should scrape though. If its lead based covering won't help and it won't be good for you or the baby. [muted exposure] 7/24/2008 11:30:02 PM
About the gestational diabetes. My mom had it with both my brother AND me. Actually my grandma DID have diabetes so I figure that might have raised my mom's chances. After her pregnancies, my mom didn't have diabetes anymore. Try not to worry too much about it. [Crystal=♥=] 7/25/2008 9:38:11 AM
awww..... I HATED that test! Ugh!

Maybe your craving milk? I did at the end of my first pregnancy.

Wishing you happy baby thoughts! [Ark's Dream] 7/26/2008 9:03:53 AM
Ugh! I failed my first test last time but passed the second. I'm crossing my fingers that I pass this time too! Thanks for the note. Where in Michigan do you live? We live on the West side. [Mishaall] [p] 8/6/2008 6:59:33 AM
Ooo,I was borderline with my first. Hopefully this won't develop into type 2 later. I'm so glad you're getting your house, and bless your family for helping. [angelhair] 8/6/2008 9:20:51 PM
