existential pick-up lines in poetry

You’re an accidental node of consciousness
traveling around in a bag of pink ape meat
for eighty or so years if you’re really lucky?
Oh my God, so am I! It’s weird as hell, right?

You’ve spent your life buffeted about by a rigged economic system
the struggle between several arbitrary self-serving ethical models
positioning for power and the difficulty of never quite knowing
what anyone else really thinks of you? That is such a coincidence!
That’s what I’ve been up to too! We have so much in common.

You’re totally confused by an arbitrary universe
while swimming in a sea of people people people
desperately trying to pretend they know the secret
putting on a latex mask of falsified understanding
in the hopes that they can fake it til they make it?
Jesus, I feel the exact same way. We should hang out.

Did an angel fall out of the empty heaven
where we pretend there is another life
where we pretend there is order and meaning
where we pretend there is a loving God
laying out a subtle plan for everything will ultimately be happy?
Because if she did, she should give her my number.
That we might warm each other in the cold night of random madness?
Is that angel you?
In that case, we should totally sleep together.
