When I got up yesterday, I had one thing “to do” for the day. That was to meet the gal who helps me mail out the newsletter I write for your “Fab 50’s” senior club and give her the copy and mailing stickers for the June publication. We are going out of town (more later) for a few days and will miss the first of the month mailing date. I was going to meet Marilyn at the library across the lake at ten… or whenever she called and said she was on her way. Just out of the shower and into my clothes, I noticed I’d had a call from son Mike and also a text asking if we had made it safely to Montana. (He thought we left last Wednesday, but it’s this coming Wednesday.) I called him and said no, not yet.

Then he asked what we were doing and I said nothing. He said they were driving up the a town north of here where some of our old neighbors from ND were celebrating a granddaughter’s graduation and would we like to ride along. Well, yeah! They wanted to leave at 10:30. (It’s now 9:15) I prodded Papa to get a move on and decided I should wear something different and Marilyn called to say I didn’t need to come to the library, she’d stop by here and pick up the folder.

I had the supplies for our building’s Saturday Happy Hour and had to find somebody to take charge, since I’m subbing for the unofficial chairwoman who’s out of the country. Decided just to leave the bag in the Commons with a note, hoping the right person would discover it and take over.

Met Marilyn at the door and asked her to not mail the newsletters too early because people have been known to misplace them and forget what their food assignment was…(Our “Fabulous 50’s are now in their late 70’s and 80’s) and returned to find Papa just about ready. I had to find a card to take along for the graduate and we needed to stop by the ATM on the way to Mike’s house. Made it there at 10:29, only to find DIL had had to run into work for a few minutes. I guess it was about 11:00 when we loaded up in her car and headed out of town.

Mike had not been to these friends’ house before. Papa and I had, but it was like six years ago and it was not easy to find. I remembered that it was quite a ways out of town, on this side, so DIL used electronics to find the back way in and we got there a lot sooner than if we had gone clear into town and back out.

Anyhow, we got there. The graduation had been early in the morning so everybody was back in their jeans. Burgers were on the grill and the house was alive with our old neighbors, their kids and grandkids.... We had a lovely time.

And got back to the city, and to our house to catch the end of Happy Hour, witness a few minutes of lovely sunshine before the next shower hit, watch some baseball and make it to bed by bedtime.

Nice day.
