For a change I am writing this at 7 pm on a Saturday - SW… has gone out to a golf dinner and I have the evening to myself. The Eurovision Song Contest beckons - not!
Normally when she goes out like this I get a fish supper from the chippy and indulge myself - but I fancied something different, and so while I write, my bolognese sauce is simmering gently - and in ten minutes or so I shall put on the pasta.
In fact she has been out most of the day - golfing until after lunch - and the having a rest this afternoon while I got on with other things. So instead of a discussion about we should do - I did my own thing. No, not celebrate Masturbation Month but go to the Library!
I realised that you can use a genealogical site - Ancestry - free in the library - and I found some work I did on my forefathers and mothers when my own mother was alive.
So I spent a great 90 minutes exploring census returns -and found out that it is likely that my great-great-grandfather might have been born out of wedlock. Just a hunch - like I know when and where he was born but there is no record of the birth - and his original surname was his mother’s. I was well prepared - no paper and no pen - so I had to borrow both from the librarian - some historian!
When elder son rang later - looking for money - he got quite excited about my work - not least because his son has one of the names of my gggf. I shall get more organised - and spend more time there - a nice way of doing my own thing!!!
The pasta has just gone in the water. I have a large glass of red wine which was left over from yesterday evening when we had another Tesco Meal for two for ten pounds - this time Beef in Rioja, Wedges and cheesecake sweet with a bottle of Sicilian wine - altogether they should cost £18 - the wine is £7 on its own.
As for the Song Contest - I shall watch it with a cynical eye - and just tell me this - if it is Eurovision why are there Australians singing???
One more thing - well done Ireland - large majority in the referendum to approve of same sex marriage - amazing given the role the RC Church had there - the first country in the world to do it by popular vote. hey, it means all those gay Irish barmen in London can go home!!! Maybe they did to vote.
