All good. in A small but passable life.

I finished reading “Stone Mattress” by Margaret Atwood. It was a very nice collection of nine “tales”. Very nice.

Mom got the results yesterday from all these tests over the past month or so. She’s good to go. Everything checked out. She’s not due back until sometime in July. She’s still got this phlegm-y sounding cough going on, but she smugly said that she managed not to cough while she was at her cardiologists office yesterday. Whatever.

Now that she’s been cleared to resume her independent life, including driving and living alone, I feel better about leaving on Saturday. My sis’s situation with the cancer is still all up in the air, but her chemo is about over then she’ll just be waiting on the next round of scans to see what’s next.

I’ve got work to do once I return home. Jassy and I need to find a house and get moved. We need to go out to her mother’s and get a garden planted. Her mother said something about finding a rototiller guy. That will save a lot of work. And there is some work to be done on her mother’s house. And there is maintenance to be done on the van. Jassy wants me to show her how to do all that herself. We need to change the oil and lube. The passenger side window won’t roll down. The windshield washer pump won’t pump. The van needs washed, badly. And there are some very small rust spots that need to be taken care of. And of course, we need to take it into the shop and see why the A/C stopped working.

Did I mention that Jassy’s boyfriend Clayton is quitting his current job because he also got hired on at Panera? The same store where Jassy got hired and is working. So now they’re both set up for the perfect jobs to see them through their college careers. They’ll both be able to pick their own hours and days to work. And Jassy is really impressed with how laid back and SANE the managers and company are. So different than the last three jobs she’s had.

I made some chocolate chip cookies last night. The store bought cookie dough kind. They smelled SO good cooking! And of course, we ended up with one giant cookie cause they all ran together. It didn’t affect the taste though!

I usually don’t watch TV, but because I can, I plan on watching Letterman’s final show tonight. It is cultural history, I suppose.

I managed to watch every episode of Grey’s Anatomy this season. I kind of like how everything ended. I can actually see where the show can go next season.

And of course, Game of Thrones. I really need to re-read the last book. Especially since the TV series is supposedly veering off track from the books. I can remember where the last book left off, mostly, but the TV series is trying to befuddle my memories.

I also need to order up some books for my “hold” list at the library back home. I have nothing to read now and I’ll be ready for a book when I return.

I’ve got three more days to lay by the pool here. And by the time the weather and water is warm enough back home my tan will most likely to have faded away.

I still need to work out what I’m taking back home and what I’m going to leave here, clothes-wise. I’m going to leave those new pretty white tennis shoes here. And the white socks and white T-shirts. I’m sure I’ll be coming back here and I’m not sure I’d even wear all that back home. I’ve got shoes and shirts back home that I need to finish reducing to rags so I’ll feel better about throwing them away. I am taking the two pair of shorts that Mom bought me. I’ve needed those for years now. Cargo shorts with lots of pockets. What every homeless unemployed guy needs to bum around in?

So yeah, I believe my mission here is complete. Friday evening I’ll go over to the main building and print out my boarding pass. Saturday morning I’ll do a final load of wash. And then Saturday afternoon Mom will take me to the airport.

Jassy asked me what I wanted for dinner Saturday night. I told her to surprise me.
