A day away yesterday - taking in another live concert - and meeting up with an old colleague and his wife for lunch - or, that is what they thought? SW.. was in charge of arrangements and when I asked her what the plans were she worked back through e mails and found we would meet for coffee mid-morning - if they could make it. We were there, and they weren’t - so no problem - we had coffee and guessed we would see them at the concert - we did, and they wondered why we had not joined them at lunch, as had been arranged!!
I kept well out of this - and it did seem daft that we had not checked arrangements by phone - except we did not have their mobile number. We have now!
Anyway, we were able to have a good chat before the start - and the concert was superb.
So it all worked out well - and the pizza and salad and red wine we had yesterday evening went down a treat
I am getting pissed off by the headlines generated by the new government under DC - all policy initiatives - but with little idea how they might work. In education the idea of ‘failing’ schools being taken over by a hit squad, and the principal sacked - that is great for morale!
In health the policy of general practice operating 7 days a week, and full cover in hospitals 24/7 - ‘the first in the world’ - there are not enough GPs at the moment and lots are retiring because of the strain - not enough nurses - and no one has costed it - and knows where the money is coming from.
I fear we are in the famous ‘100 days’ beloved of new leaders when there is action, action, action - especially since the opposition is in disarray and cannot respond - expect more of this!!!
And Ireland - yes Ireland - is voting this week on whether there should be same sex marriage - the Roman Catholic Church is - obviously - against it - but such is the change in Irish society - more secular - and the Church shown to be riddled with sexual abuse scandals in the past and the recent present its words carry little moral weight - we live in interesting times.
And Prince Charles is meeting Gerry Adams today in Galway - the man who ‘was not’ in the IRA meeting the man whose great-uncle was killed by them - as I said - interesting times.
And since May is Masturbation month here is a wonderful erotic drawing by Klimt - I love it - not allowed if you are Catholic!
