Uf… I did it again. I fell behind on bookmarks. TO THE READING… but not because I’ll have to put that off for another while. That is probably what I should be doing as I can’t sleep. Because that issue is back. Funny. Insomnia 1: Bar Exam; Insomnia Present? Who knows? Job Search… moving… marriage… money… all the reasons?
Had a 12 hour workday today. And this time, that is closer to the truth. For those who don’t know/remember… I currently work part time at a government job. I emphasize government job because the pay-scale embraces the most ridiculous aspects of government spending. We have X Budget per year. If we spend X-Y; our budget for the next year is X-Y… no matter what events led to the previous year’s budget difference. Therefore; every government office is desperate to spend every dollar they have… because efficiency, saving, fiscal intelligence… are actively punished. (Mini Rant: Imagine, if you will, a person living like that.... Person makes $50k a year; one year, a car is purchased and all $50k is used up; the next year, they don’t buy a new car… so they have money $20k left over.. so the next year they are only paid $30k. WHAT?!) Rant over… back on track....
SO… I work at a government job where every cent needs to be spent. Literally. Therefore, we work by “shifts” not by hours even though we are paid “hourly.” Each shift counts as 3 hours, no matter the work put in. This means, in a very real sense, that there are some days where I work less than 60 minutes… but I did (1) Felony Court; (2) Misdemeanor Court; and (3) Intake Interviews… so I get paid for 9 hours (3 shifts, each shift equals 3 hours). Today… Thursday Morning is District Court so everything shifts. We have (1) Felony court @ 1 followed by (2) Misdemeanor court followed by (3) Programs Interviews followed by (4) Intake Interviews. I was scheduled for all 4 shifts (thus 12 hours). I also had a trainee today. I don’t get paid extra for that but it slows me down considerably. So when I say “Had a 12 hour workday today. And this time, that is closer to the truth.” it is because I didn’t just put in 2 hours and get to claim it as 12. I put in at least 7 genuine hours of work. Almost like a real adult, lol.
When I got back home, I nuked hot pockets and drank Gatorade before starting on some Bar Paperwork. I don’t know what it is exactly… the lack of sleep; the remarkably shitty diet; the paperwork; the lack of a job… I’m depressed. Or at least… I have been since getting home from work. I could spend time reflecting on it… and knowing me, I will much later this evening… but I’m worried that it will be more of the same. It isn’t even like I’m feeling depressed because of a rut or anything… lots of change has happened technically. I’m a lawyer! I am a licensed attorney. And… and… I turn 31 this weekend. That isn’t depressing me because aging doesn’t really bug me but… I do wonder if there’s something about it. You’ll likely hear more from me tonight… I can actually probably promise that.
PS- the creative idea thing had a clear and strong winner and I love it… it is something I am excited to start… but I think I’ll do that after I see Avengers: Age of Ultron because… yeah… I already have a lot to say about that movie and will likely be doing an in-depth discussion about it here. A “pre-watch” and a “post-watch” in one entry kind of thing.
