so on our 2nd day in Amsterdam we [again my mom & I] visited the tulip gardens. well the famous one Keukenhof [quake-en-hof]. we took a train there and saw the dutch countryside. it’s so pretty lots of lawn and green and space. it’s like something straight out of ‘brothers grimm’. the gardens themselves are beautiful. so many flowers and not just tulips though mostly tulips. they have daffodils too. and lilacs. and hyacinths. and trees. there’s water everywhere there cause of all the canals. we saw purple ones and white ones. flowers I mean not canals.........brilliant red ones. pink. blue.
before we explored the gardens we had lunch at a café there. i had a muffin and we split a sprite. then we went into the gardens. there was annoying tour group of japanese people. we stumbled upon a small beach. that had sand on it but not like. the sand of sunny jamaica or mexico. and there were mussel shells.
after walking around the gardens for awhile we came across a working windmill. we went up into it and saw the inside where the thing turns so the blades can move. yeah they move fast. I didn’t realize that. we climbed to the balcony which you can see the entirety of the gardens from. i’m slightly afraid of heights.
so after that we got some Indonesian food cause i’d never had it before and I wanted to have something i’d never had before and also i’d heard they have it over there. it’s good lots of spices.
yeah it’s a beautiful city. so old and just . there’s so much history. nice people, tall. quite reserved but it seems like once you get to know them they’re warm. everyone was quite helpful and patient w/ us. the dutch language sounds similar to german. I have a funny story about that.
people get around by tram, boat, walking and biking. a lot of people bike. and they don’t promote wearing helmets which is interesting for such a safe city. yeah I felt really safe there. it’s a cool place.
our flat was lovely and the ladies we rented it from were nice. [well i’d hope so] a mother and her daughter. the mom lookedyounger than the daughter. she didn’t speak much English and I don’t speak dutch so we said less than 10 words to each other. mine were ‘hi’, ‘no’ [when asked if we drank coffee as they were showing us the kitchen], ‘yes’ [as in yes I understand] and ‘thank you’ [on our last day]. she might’ve been confused but she seemed to like me and hopefully got what I meant. communication’s about so much more than just talking which yes I knew but often forget. I was patient w/ her. I was more patient there and things bothered me less but that might’ve been due to the fact that I was on holiday..........and not just by myself. w/ my mom too. we stayed on the top floor of 4 floors. the roof sloped so we had to remember not to bump into the tv which was attached to the ceiling and a wall. everything’s either tall and massive or short. but it’s a lot older than the states and people were much shorter a long time ago then they are now. rolling curvy streets. yeah when I got back I was surprised by how flat and short things are in Denver.
*So iwaswrong. after the tulip gardens we evidently went on a canal tour according to my photos. after which we had crepes. and took the long way to the............some museum I don’t remember which. we didn’t go for Indonesian food that day. the tour was nice.
