We had a Picnic in Another Open Diary refugee

I’ve been getting a bad case of cabin fever because I can’t really go anywhere unless John takes me, and I hardly ever get to spend any time outside (we went to the movies last weekend and saw Insurgent and that was nice, but we didn’t set foot in the ‘big out’ except to walk from our car into the cinema and then back again). I was going to go to work with John today just so I could get out of the house, but it turned out he didn’t have any calls booked so he wasn’t going any further than his computer! He won’t go far from home when he’s working just in case he gets an emergency call out (not that it really makes a difference - we’d drop everything and go, but he says it’s the principle of the thing)… But even working from home, you’re supposed to be allowed to take a lunch hour! And I was going stir crazy… So I persuaded him that it would be the perfect day to drive over to Bathtub Beach (which is only about 20 minutes from here so we could be there and back inside his lunch hour) and have our lunch on their nice sheltered picnic tables. After a little dithering over whether he could spare the time, he agreed. And it was lovely! I was going to buy us a salad but the Publix didn’t really have any, so I lashed out and got us key lime cheesecake and watermelon instead, with chicken tenders so fresh out of the fryer they hadn’t even made it to the display case yet. And then I went for a short walk in the beach, and we came home happy so John could get back to his computer. BTW, photographing wave ripples is really hard! They won’t hold still…

(next time we go to the beach for lunch I need to take my shorts so I can take my shoes off and get my feet wet… it won’t really work in an ankle-length skirt so I didn’t try!)
