Castles and Low Attention Spans in Everyday Ramblings

This is the house up in the affluent neighborhood above me that had all the pretty Easter decorations including the giant chocolate bunny. I mentioned the giant edible Leporidae in my public yoga class this week and one of the women I work with was there and wanted to see all the pictures because she lives nearby and drives up that way to get home. I brought in my laptop and showed all the pictures to a bunch of colleagues the other day.

It is interesting how much we actually saw that day wandering around up there on foot curious and observant and yet we looked right at the bunny and didn’t see it. S. didn’t see it either. We rely so much on what we expect to see.

Starting today we are having a dry spell and clear weather for a few days and I am hoping to walk into the northern part of that neighborhood with S. tomorrow. The search for interesting public staircases continues.

I completed week 7 of my staircase challenge this week and am now climbing stairs for five minutes 5 days a week. Tuesday I walked over and climbed the tram stairs (all 132 of them) four times in a row. I used to get winded walking up them once so this is awesome and wasn’t really that much work.

Really. You build up gradually.

The hard part, (and I admit it is more challenging some days than others), is consistently doing it no matter what the weather or homeless mentally ill guy sleeping in the bushes conditions are.

I have good days and bad days with my mystery illness. Overall I am getting better but yesterday was a pretty tired day. Luckily it was an “off” day for stair climbing.

I took a cab over the big hill to see the dental specialist in the afternoon because the place is quite challenging to get to on public transportation. He doesn’t think there is anything he can do for me at this point because I have too much bone loss in my jaw.

So next up is yet another specialist in yet another difficult to get to on public transportation area to see what she can do. With these serious issues in my jaw and retirement looming in four years I need to develop a plan for how I am going to manage this all at that point. I can’t afford to keep sinking thousands and thousands of dollars into my mouth. I think I may talk to the folks at the dental school where I work about a plan starting next year.

This afternoon I have my invasive ultrasound. I will be glad when that is over! It can’t possibly be as uncomfortable as the exam I had last week so I am taking comfort in that thought.

Saint Joe is off on vacation now for a week so I will be busy, as I am doing both of our jobs while he is gone.

The good news is that at the end of it, a week from today, I am joining Kes and Most Honorable for four days at the beach!

I’ll miss the cats. Diego and I are bonded in a way now that I haven’t been bonded with a cat in about 15 years. If only I could figure out how to clip his claws! I got one last night but looking at my hands and arms you would see ample evidence that claw clipping is in order. He is such a sweetheart…

…An easily bored low attention span ADD sweetheart.
