I was listening to NPR today on my way home from getting Cannon from daycare and they were talking about why libraries are important. It’s strange to me there are people who don’t think they are. Libraries are one of the first things to cut, as far as funding goes as well. Libraries and education. Ridiculous. Anyway, they mentioned that physical books being checked out is actually on the rise, which may be counter-intuitive considering how so many people have devices they read on now.
I think some people forget that not everyone has a computer or internet at home, or a smart phone. Libraries are important not just because books aren’t readily available to everyone at home or can be purchased by everyone, but also because it provides a safe place for some people, and provides a sense of community. The computers are also useful for people who don’t have them at home. One lady said she runs a non-profit and the kids like being in an environment that gives them positive adult interactions, and positive interactions with each other.
I think when politicians are eager to cut funding for these things, they forget that they are cutting a necessary slice of life for some people. It’s as if poor people don’t matter. They are expected to pull up their boot straps and make their own lives better, regardless of their situations. I cannot stand this line of thinking.
It’s like those article that talk about food stamps and what people are buying with them. The last one I saw talked about how seafood and steak may be allowed to be bought with food stamps, and people were angry. But who are YOU to say what a poor person should buy? What a person with food stamps has in their cart is their business. And it’s not like they can buy up the whole stock of steak and seafood and eat it every night. It doesn’t work like that.
Anyway.
Lorelei actually ate something today for breakfast. I was very happy about that. I noticed she has a rash that looks like an allergic reaction. I put a different shirt on her, since I think that other one was washed at her grandparents’ house. We’ll see if that helps. She’s very fussy and wants to nurse a lot still, and she has a stuffy nose.
Edit: I think she has roseola. Poor kid.
I’m very tired.
She LOVES brushing her teeth. Complete opposite of Cannon.
Cannon is still afraid of the bathtub. :( I have no idea why. It’s been months now and still not getting better.
I’m working on trying to get Cannon to say “I love you.” No luck yet. ;P
We discovered that our Vegas trip is going to cost more than we thought. I also discovered that we are going to have to buy my mom’s plane ticket and hotel room too. Ugh. My dad started drama already and said he won’t be attending because my mom will be there. Awesome.
I wish I had a more “normal” family.
I’m scared that my mom and ten-year-old sister are going to start drama though. They always do. They don’t know how to behave sometimes and it irritates the fuck out of me. My 15-year-old sister is a little better, but she will stir things up and manipulate situations in a bad way sometimes when it suits her. I’m hoping that doesn’t happen either.
I really wanted my wedding to the opposite of stressful and now I’m kind of regretting inviting everyone. I should have just said to Jacob “let’s elope and meet my sister and her fiance there and just do it.” That would have been better, I think.
Oh, well. I’ll still manage to have a great time, because I’m not going to let anything get in the way of that.
